Ethos: Progressive Roots & Showco Connections

Journey into the world of Ethos, the Indiana-born progressive rock band whose adventurous sound and technical prowess made them a standout in the 1970s US prog scene. Drawing inspiration from legends like Yes, Genesis, and King Crimson, Ethos blended folk, jazz, and pop influences into a style all their own—marked by intricate musicianship and rich vocal harmonies.

Ethos shares a special legacy with Showco, as several members and crew—including Michael Ponczek, ML Procise, Wil Sharpe, Craig Schertz, Paul “Biker” Strong, and Thom Hansen, all went on to work for Showco, earning the nickname “Ft. Wayne boys” in the touring world.

Dale Newman also a Ft Wayne native never worked for Showco but did tour with Genesis as guitar tech. He also became their studio manager at the farm for years.

Phil Collins himself would often refer to them on stage as “those Ft. Wayne boys,” a nod to their roots and their lasting impact behind the scenes. The Ethos-Showco connection may have even played a role in introducing Genesis to Showco’s legendary crew.

Explore rare photos, memorabilia, and stories from their years on the road, and discover how Ethos helped shape both the progressive rock landscape and Showco’s legacy.
